A narrow rocky canyon framed by layered red and orange sandstone cliffs on Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park, Utah. Stone steps and a metal handrail lead through the gorge beneath a rock overhang, with sparse vegetation on the canyon walls. Captured in autumn 2010.
Story
The photograph looks upward through a rocky gorge on the east side of Zion National Park near the Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel. Layered red and orange sandstone cliffs, a dark rock overhang, sparse vegetation, and a pale blue sky create strong geological texture and depth. The stairway and railing provide clear leading lines through the canyon scene.
