Description
A large reddish sandstone formation dominates this panoramic autumn landscape at Turret Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. The natural arch and adjacent rock pillar rise above a rocky foreground with sparse green shrubs under a cloud-filled sky.
Story
Captured on 4 October 2010, the image presents a ground-level view of a prominent weathered sandstone formation on Turret Arch Trail. The arch opens toward the cloudy sky, while layered rock surfaces, erosion cavities, ledges, sparse shrubs and a rocky foreground reveal the geological texture of the scene. Soft, diffused daylight gives the autumn landscape a subdued palette of rust red, terracotta, brown, muted green and gray.
