Story

Captured on October 12, 2010, this wide-format landscape looks across an open valley toward extensive sedimentary cliffs, rounded ridges, and flat-topped mesas. Dry grasses, low shrubs, thin fence lines, and a small dark-roofed shelter add rural detail to the foreground and middle distance. The location is along Cottonwood Canyon Road in the Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument region of southern Utah; nearby features are regional context and are not claimed to be visible in the image.
