Description
A large blue geothermal pool releases white and pale blue steam across the open thermal landscape of Gem Pool in Yellowstone National Park. Mineral-encrusted shoreline, rocky ground, conifer-covered hills, and a clear autumn sky create a distinctive panoramic scene in Wyoming’s Upper Geyser Basin.
Story
Viewed from ground level, Gem Pool fills the foreground and middle ground with vivid blue geothermal water partly veiled by white and pale blue steam. Rough gray and brown mineral ground borders the pool, while a conifer-covered ridge and exposed rocky slope extend across the background beneath a clear blue sky. Captured on September 30, 2012, the image presents an autumn landscape in the Old Faithful area of Wyoming.
