Story

Captured in October 2010, the image presents an eye-level view across open arid grassland toward a layered sandstone ridge. The rust-red formation includes steep slopes, shadowed recesses, scattered boulders, and a tall stacked pinnacle right of center. Golden grasses and sparse vegetation fill the foreground, while blue sky and white and gray cumulus clouds extend across the upper half of the panorama. The GPS-supported setting is near Mexican Hat Rock Road and Mexican Hat in southeastern Utah; the image is not identified as being inside Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.
